We are often asked if the deer is from Nara Park, but this deer is actually one of the wild deer living around our home. My mother takes part in wildlife management at the request of the local government, helping to control the deer population as part of maintaining the natural ecosystem. He used to have a rather proud and independent personality, but recently, he has started to warm up to our family when we visit. This particular scene captures him stretched out in front of the stove, completely relaxed. There’s something about the way cats stretch out so freely that always makes me feel at ease as well. Before painting, I carefully study his features and feline structure through drawing, ensuring that his unique character is faithfully expressed.
